Carinthia & Salzburg

The provinces of Carinthia and Salzburg together form one of Austria's most diverse landscapes. Carinthia is defined by its extraordinary lakes — Wörthersee, Millstätter See, Weissensee — waters so clear and blue that the region has been called "Austria's Riviera". But above the lake shores, the Nockberge mountains and the Carnic Alps offer serious alpine walking in blissful solitude.

The Hohe Tauern National Park straddles both provinces and contains Austria's highest peak, the Grossglockner (3,798 m). The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of Europe's great mountain drives, and the park's walking trails are equally spectacular — the Pinzgauer Spaziergang ridge walk is a particular highlight.
