Austria's most celebrated alpine region, home to the Ötztal, Zillertal, and Stubai valleys — a hiker's paradise of high pastures, ancient glaciers, and Tyrolean tradition.
Tyrol is the heartland of Austrian alpine culture — a land of painted farmhouses, onion-domed churches, and some of the most exhilarating high-altitude walking in the Eastern Alps. The region's valleys radiate south from the Inn River into a complex of glaciated massifs that stretch to the Italian and Swiss borders.
Our Tyrol program explores the great valley systems: the Ötztal, famous for Ötzi the Iceman and its extensive glacier terrain; the Zillertal, beloved for its high Schlegeis Reservoir and the Berliner Höhenweg trail; and the Stubai, where the Stubai Glacier provides summer skiing alongside spectacular valley walking.
Accommodation in traditional Gasthöfe and mountain huts gives an authentic taste of Tyrolean hospitality. The region's cuisine — Gröstl, Tiroler Speck, Knödel — is hearty mountain food best enjoyed after a long day on the trail.

Difficulty & Fitness
Tyrol has trails for every level — from easy meadow walks in the Inn Valley to challenging glacier routes in the Ötztal. The Eagle Walk is a multi-day undertaking requiring good fitness and mountain experience.
Where to Stay
Tyrolean Gasthäuser and huts are famous for their warm hospitality, hearty food and locally brewed beer. Innsbruck and the resort towns of Sölden and Seefeld offer excellent hotel infrastructure.
