Menorca
Camí de Cavalls
The historic 185 km coastal path that circles the entire island of Menorca — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of wild coves, prehistoric monuments, and Mediterranean scrub.
The Camí de Cavalls is one of the great coastal walking routes of the Mediterranean. This 185 km path circles the entire island of Menorca, following the coastline through 20 defined stages that range from gentle cliff-top walks to more rugged terrain in the island's wilder northern reaches. The name — "Horse Path" — recalls its historical use as a military patrol route built in the 14th century to monitor the island's coastline against piracy and invasion.
Menorca's coastline is extraordinary in its variety: the south coast is characterised by pale limestone cliffs above turquoise coves of white sand; the north coast is wilder, with red sandstone cliffs, windswept heathland, and the distinctive tramontana wind that shapes the vegetation into low, sculpted forms. The combination of these two very different shorelines in one compact walk is one of the great pleasures of the Camí.
We offer the complete circuit (typically 8–10 days) and shorter best-of selections focusing on the most scenic stages. The ancient Talayotic bronze-age monuments — talayots, taules, and navetes — that dot Menorca's landscape are a constant companion: Menorca has the densest concentration of prehistoric monuments per square kilometre in Europe.
