Engadin Valley
The high-altitude Engadin valley around St. Moritz combines world-class hiking, crystal-clear lakes, and Romansh culture in one of Switzerland's sunniest corners.
The Engadin is Switzerland's highest and most sun-drenched inhabited valley, sitting at around 1,800 m above sea level in the canton of Graubünden. Known globally for St. Moritz, it is far more than a winter playground — in summer it transforms into one of the most beautiful walking landscapes in the Alps.
The valley's jewel is the series of turquoise lakes: Lake St. Moritz, Lake Silvaplana, and Lake Sils, all reflecting the surrounding peaks on calm mornings. The Swiss National Park, just to the east, offers strictly protected wilderness where ibex, chamois, and eagles are commonly encountered.
We walk the Panoramaweg ridge routes with views stretching to the Bernina massif, explore the Maloja Pass and the Val Bregaglia descending into Italy, and spend time in the Rhaeto-Romansh villages of Sils, Silvaplana, and Celerina.

Difficulty & Fitness
The national park trails are well-marked but long; most day routes cover 15–22 km. Valley lake walks are easy and suitable for any fitness level. The Piz Languard summit (3,262 m) is a strenuous full-day effort.
Where to Stay
St. Moritz offers world-class luxury; Sils Maria and Pontresina are quieter and more affordable alternatives with a genuine mountain atmosphere. Mountain huts inside the national park provide a rustic overnight experience.
