Description
The Dolomites are unlike any other mountains on Earth. Formed from ancient coral reefs and sculpted by millions of years of erosion, their soaring limestone towers glow in shades of rose and gold at sunrise and sunset—a phenomenon the locals call Enrosadira. Walking here feels almost theatrical, as if the mountains were created for the sole purpose of inspiring awe.
Our Dolomites Essential program is based in the spectacular Val Gardena, an idyllic valley surrounded by some of the Dolomites' most iconic peaks. We hike around the majestic Sassolungo, whose sheer rock faces evoke the grandeur of a colossal Gothic cathedral. We come face to face with the jagged, blade-like spires of the Odle Range and explore the vast Sella Massif, a dramatic plateau framed by towering cliffs, deep canyons, scree slopes, and remote summits stretching for nearly three miles.
Beyond its breathtaking landscapes, the Dolomites are also home to the Ladins, a little-known cultural minority that has inhabited these mountains for centuries. Along the way, we discover their unique traditions, language, and enduring connection to this remarkable alpine landscape.
